Career Development 3.0 |
Building on the foundational insights of two previous The Surveyors’ Trust (Trust) workforce papers[1] [2] authored by Connection Point Consulting, this comprehensive paper seeks to further refine and expand the strategic approach to sustainable workforce development for the Surveying Industry by drawing on practices across Queensland. The insights garnered from this analysis can be adapted nationwide, fostering improved coordination and collaboration throughout the Industry. Ultimately, this will facilitate the delivery of high-quality, impactful workforce programs, all integrated within a robust strategic marketing and communications framework.
This paper addresses critical dimensions by mapping existing workforce programs across the region and delineating areas where further attention is needed. It not only identifies key gaps and overlaps, as highlighted in the first Trust workforce paper, The Australian Surveying and Spatial Workforce – A National Roadmap (2022), but also proposes targeted solutions that align with the identified needs.
Simultaneously, this paper enhances the marketing and communication strategies initially outlined in the second Trust workforce paper, A National Career Pathway for Surveyors (2023), bridging concepts with practical, actionable strategies to elevate industry engagement and visibility. By integrating elements, this paper presents a robust strategic marketing and communications framework designed for widespread industry adoption.
Finally, a deliverable of this initiative is to take the findings and recommendations from Sections 1 and 2 and develop a strategic funding framework for the Trust to use when determining where funding is to be targeted and when assessing submissions and proposals. Central to this framework are measures that support decision-making around the allocation of funds, specifically targeting programs designed to collaborate, enhance and compliment, rather than replicate existing initiatives in the market.
The overarching goal of this paper is to augment and harmonise current programs, thereby reinforcing the Trust’s ongoing commitment to sustainable workforce development — a key focus area for the Trust and its members. The integrated approach ensures that the Trust can effectively contribute to the Surveying Industry’s resilience and adaptability in identifying, developing and meeting future challenges.
The fundamental premise of this paper is the imperative for enhanced coordination and collaboration throughout the Industry.
